Gary Teale, Artist's Statement
Education:
Seattle Pacific University, M.Ed. with a focus on Arts in Education
University of Washington, Post-Baccalaureate studies in drawing, graphic design, photography and art history.
In my primary medium, black & white photography, I would describe my style as "formalist" with an emphasis on the play of light and shadow on various surfaces. I have been highly influenced by the work of Ansel Adams and his 10 zone philosophy regarding tonal values ranging from pure black through shades of gray to pure white.
