Virginia Carter
VIRGINIA CARTER ARTIST STATEMENT I grew up in Spokane and have done art most of my life. In 1976, 10 years after high school graduation, I had the opportunity to go back to college and major in illustration. I took a ceramics class and never left. I love ceramics and how you can express yourself. The love of flowers and animals has resulted in most of my subjects being done around them. I hand draw my subjects and create porcelain with Cone 7 firing, where I get the best low-fire red and orange glazes. I have shown my work at American Craft Council shows in Boston, San Francisco, many in the Northwest, incuding in Boise and at Art on the Green in Coeur d'Alene. Some of my pieces are in the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture in Spokane and I have a few private collections around the world. I retired in my early 60's, but the desire to get back to clay remains a constant thought.
